JNU Admission 2019: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is one of the leading University in India, also it has been ranked one in India by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). In fact, JNU was also rewarded as The Best University in 2017 by the President of India.

JNU: College Overview

Jawahar Lal Nehru University was established in 1969 by an act of the parliament. It was named after Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister. Prof. Moonis Raza was the Founder Chairman and proctor. The bill for the foundation of the University was placed in the Rajya Sabha on 1 September 1965 by the minister of education at that time under the jurisdiction of M.C.Chagla. During the discussion Bhushan Gupta, Member of Parliament said,

“New faculties should be involved, including scientific socialism, and one thing that University should keep is worthy ideas in mind and provide approachability to students from weaker sections of the society.”

The JNU Bill was passed in Lok Sabha on 16 November 1966 and the JNU Act came into force on 22 April 1969.

  1. JNUEE is a university level entrance exam which is conducted by the NTA from 2019. Jawaharlal Nehru University conducts every year Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Exam (JNUEE).
  2. The university offers the UG, PG and Ph.D. courses in various professional fields. Admissions in the college are only done in writing. But from this year especially to begin with, for JNU Admission 2019, the entrance exam will be conducted online and the question will be MCQ-based.
  3. The applications received for 2019 admissions are 1,16,558 and the seats are 3,383. Which includes 1,043 for Mphil and Ph.D. courses.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Qualifying Exam: Pass 10+2 from a recognized board.
  2. Minimum Marks: Student should have at least 45% marks in the board exam.
  3. Minimum Age Limit: 17 Years is minimum age as on 1st October 2019.
  4. Date and timing – The JNUEE will be conducted from 27 May to 30 May 2019. The exam will be conducted in two shifts; 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5 pm. The exam is going to be held in 122 cities.

Reservation of seats for SC/ST applicants:

15% of the total numbers of seats are reserved for the Scheduled Caste and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes.

  • If the applicant belongs to SC or ST category, applicant’s caste must be listed in the category of Govt. of India schedule. The Caste Certificate should clearly state:

(a) Name and the caste of the candidate whether the applicant belongs to SC or ST.

(b) District, State or Union Territory of the person’s usual place of residence should be mentioned.

(c) The proper certificate of Govt. of India schedule under which the candidate’s caste is approved as SC or ST.

  • If the applicants don’t have the SC or ST caste certificate at the time of final registration the applicant can upload the acknowledgment slip of the SC or ST caste certificate application.
  • But, at the time of admission, the applicant will have to give the valid SC or ST caste certificate. If an SC or ST applicant gets admission in the unreserved category, then the applicant should satisfy the minimum eligibility requirement of that category.
  • SC/ST students who get admission under open merit that is unreserved will not be included in the reserved quota, i.e. (15% + 7.5%).

Examination Pattern:

  • Mode: The exam will be conducted in online mode.
  • Type of Questions: Exam will be conducted will be based on MCQs.
  • Duration of Exam: 3 hours will be given to a candidate to complete the exam.
  • Maximum Marks: The question paper will be of 100 marks.
  • Marking Scheme: 1, 2, 3 or 4 marks are given for correct answers. (weightage of each question may vary for each course).
  • Language: English will be the only language of the question paper.

Syllabus for different courses for JNU admission 2019:

  • MCA:

A student should have knowledge of General aptitude, reasoning and 10+2 and Bachelor’s level mathematics and Computer Science.

  • M.Tech in Computer Science and Technology:

The students should know basics about General aptitude, reasoning, and Bachelor’s/Master’s level in Mathematics and Computer Science.

  • M.Tech in Statistical Computing:

Part A will comprise of General aptitude, reasoning, and Bachelor’s/Master’s level mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science. Part B will contain topics from data science/data communication stream.

  • MA in Economics:

The students should prepare on topics like Microeconomics, Descriptive Statistics, Problems of Economic History, Underdevelopment and Growth, etc. 

  • M.Sc in Life Sciences:

No specific syllabus has been provided. Students can follow the UGC approved syllabus in their subjects for guidance.

  • BA (Hons) in Foreign Languages:

It will contain questions from general knowledge, artificial language, short essays on issues related to the subject.
